He Bought A House…
Just a couple of years ago I was in the thick of entangled emotions that hung on the back of divorce. Being a stay-at-home mom at the time, I had no idea about the world I was going to have to step into as the now sole provider and caretaker for my two little boys.
Never…and I mean truly never did I think I would meet a man just a year and a half later. Somehow I managed to keep hope. I hoped, and prayed, for a good man to come and join our family. For a man that would love my sweet little guys as his own, who would be excited to love on them and be the man they deserved to have as their father. I had hope. But hope and belief seemed like two distant paths at the time.
While I continued to have hope I was simultaneously walking through the stages of accepting that even if that did happen I wouldn’t know when and I needed to be okay with that. After going through what I went through I promised myself there would be no more insecure ridden decisions when it came to relationships.
And then it happened…
A co-worker of mine, who has become one of my closest friends, casually mentioned she ‘had a guy’ when I was ready. I didn’t inquire much initially, just chuckled and brushed it off. She is a persistent little lady, and again mentioned him. So I said okay, tell me more. Apparently he was one of the coaches for her sons little league team. By the 4th time she mentioned him over the course of a few weeks I said listen, he has to love and be good with kids, he has to be a Christian, and just a good human overall.
Come July of 2025, I finally said I would come to one of her son’s practices to meet this guy she was so excited about.
All I can say is…she nailed it.
This man is not perfect but willing. He’s a good listener and communicator. He has been preparing his life and his heart for a family. He has been obedient to God and has sought him out in all his preparation.
May of this year he bought a house that we have been working on making a home together. We have had tough conversations about our pasts and the hardships we’ve gone through along with many laughs and playful moments.
He is the kind of person I had hoped for when I was young, the person I thought I wouldn’t have a chance to have, the person that God ended up blessing me with after the lowest I had come in my life. He brought us to each other when we were both ready. When we got to a point of obedience and accepted what really matters in life.
I believe I was made ready for the relationship I am in now because of the heartbreaks I’ve had in the past. I have been humbled, healed, open, and willing and I know all of those factors led to the road I’m on today.
I had voiced early on that if I was going to seriously meet someone it would have to be through a friend. Part of me felt this way because I wasn’t sure I could trust myself to make a decision like that again. To know who would be good for me, to know what I needed and what I could give. Also, having two little boys that I don’t like leaving made me a bit of a hermit in terms of social gatherings, as you can imagine that can make it harder to meet someone. Living with my parents was another factor I viewed as a bit of a hurdle.
But just like that, it all worked out.
Now, in these moments worth savoring, my dream of bringing a house to life is in full swing. For the first time I am, while still being frugal and a deal seeker, giving myself permission to make purchases I normally would never make for staple pieces for a home, along with all the touches that suit us.
I am so excited and have been having so much fun watching this place become the cozy oasis I always imagined my home to be.
While we don’t live here yet…I am so thankful and honored that I have gotten to be a part of the process. From the beginnings of looking, to picking, and now planning, designing, and decorating. My goal is to make this the place we want to be. A place that calls us back after a long day, a place we look forward to being after time spent exploring new places. A home that is open to many and spaces that give back to people who pour out so much.
So stay tuned and come along with me as I share my favorite finds, the plans, and everything in-between as we continue to make this house the home it’s meant to be.
Your Friend,
Jaz
